چکیده

In this article we propose a combined signed directed graph (SDG) and qualitative trend analysis (QTA) framework for incipient fault diagnosis. The SDG is the rst level in our framework and provides a possible candidate set of faults based on the incipient response of the process. The search for the actual fault is performed based on a QTA, which uses the temporal evolution of the sensors for further resolution. It is shown that this framework provides fast, reliable and accurate incipient fault diagnosis.

Root cause analysis in multivariate statistical process monitoring: Integrating reconstruction-based multivariate contribution analysis with fuzzy-signed directed graphs

Root cause analysis is an important method for fault diagnosis when used with multivariate statistical process monitoring (MSPM). Conventional contribution analysis in MSPM can only isolate the effects of the fault by pinpointing inconsistent variables, but not the underlying cause. By integrating reconstruction-based multivariate contribution analysis (RBMCA) with fuzzy-signed directed graph (...

Incipient Multiple Fault Diagnosis in Real Time with Application to Large - Scale Sys terns

By using a modified signed directed graph (SDG) together with the distributed artificial neural networks and a knowledge-based system, a method of incipient multi-fault diagnosis is presented for large-scale physical systems with complex pipes and instrumentations such as valves, actuators, sensors, and controllers. The proposed method is designed so as to (1) make a real-time incipient fault d...

A framework for on-line trend extraction and fault diagnosis

Qualitative trend analysis (QTA) is a process-history-based data-driven technique that works by extracting important features (trends) from the measured signals and evaluating the trends. QTA has been widely used for process fault detection and diagnosis. Recently, Dash et al. (2001, 2003) presented an intervalhalving-based algorithm for off-line automatic trend extraction from a record of data...

Lexicographic Optimization Based Sensor Network Design for Robust Fault Diagnosis

An appropriately designed sensor network is crucial for the success of any fault diagnostic strategy. In previous works (Bhushan and Rengaswamy, 2002a,b) strategies for optimally locating sensors based on criteria of reliability maximization and cost minimization have been devised. These opposing objectives were treated in a lexicographic (a special type of multiobjective optimization) manner. ...

Fault diagnosis using dynamic trend analysis: A review and recent developments

Dynamic trend analysis is an important technique for fault detection and diagnosis. Trend analysis involves hierarchical representation of signal trends, extraction of the trends, and their comparison (estimation of similarity) to infer the state of the process. In this paper, an overview of some of the existing methods for trend extraction and similarity estimation is presented. A novel interv...
